Do I need an instrument ?
Yes, a quality instrument is an instrumental part of learning. A poor instrument can make it much more difficult to get a good tone or to keep it in tune. Attempt to get a good quality instrument and be sure to maintain it as needed.
Do your students perform in recitals?
Yes, all students are encouraged to participate in studio recitals to gain performance experience in a supportive environment. Students also seek out other performance opportunities in school and by playing with other musicians..
Do you teach beginners? Do you take transfer students?
Yes and yes. No experience is required, but please inform me of your background so we can build on it. I teach intermediate and advanced levels as well.
What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe developing a love and curiosity for music is essential for long-term music training. I teach each student as an individual, as each student has unique interests, capabilities, challenges and goals. Everyone learns technique, reading skills, music theory and aural skills as these
How much should a student practice?
This depends on the motivation and the goals. Musicians should play their instruments daily, or very close to it. Finding a time of day, each day to play is an excellent way to get a good habit going. In the end, you only get out what you put in. Being determined and trying not to skip practice days is one pathway to success. Practicing effectively is another key component.
